ALIAS stands for “Anomaly Library Inspection Assurance Standard” and was developed as a universal nomenclature system for the pipeline integrity industry. A comprehensive list of pipeline terms and definitions were grouped and indexed by their fundamental characteristics allowing numerous synonymous terms to be indexed by the same ALIAS ID. This allows the system to be used as a virtual translator and provides a simple numerical nomenclature system to be implemented into software applications and pipeline integrity programs to prevent errors associated with unique user terminology.

ALIAS was built by industry groups including representation from various service providers, operators and regulators. Use of the web site and database is free. The cost of maintaining and hosting is sponsored by HM Pipeline Services. ...less
